P.E. is going very well. The students continue to maintain positive attitudes and kind hearts as we share space at the armory. We have been enjoying stationwork, capture the beanbags, scooter hockey, etc.

As many of you may have already heard, my family and I will be moving. We have been praying that God would guide us and that we would be open to His plan for us as a family. He is leading us back toward our families. My husband has accepted a position at a bank in Great Bend, but we will be living in Hoisington. It has been both a prayerful and difficult decision. Being a part of the St. Pats Community has been an incredible blessing for myself and my family. This is our 13th year in Kingman and  my 9th year here at St. Pats. I have enjoyed my time here very much. Even though God has a different plan for our family, we will continue to pray for our St. Pats Family! I do intend to finish this semester and would like to thank you for your support and the opportunity to be a part of your child's educational experience!

Sincerely,  Mrs. Wilborn

Tips On Being a Fit Kid

Being fit is an important and healthy choice! I want to share some tips that I have found on the website for Healthy Kids and also the website The Healthy Eating Guide.

1.  Eat a variety of foods. This will help you get the nutrients your body needs. Try new foods and revisit those that you thought you didn't like (tastes change as we mature). Make sure to start your day with breakfast! Your body and mind need fuel! School is hard work. Try some sliced fruit on your cereal, your corn flakes will enjoy the company!

2.  Drink plenty of water and milk! Your body and mind need hydration to function properly and your bones need calcium. Limit sugary drinks such as pop. Most sugary drinks don't offer any nutrients, just sugar.

3.  Listen to your body! Stop eating when your stomach feels comfortably full.

4.  Be active! Get off the couch. Enjoy physical activities by yourself, with friends or family. Take care of the body God gave you by keeping it fit! Try new activities and continue with the ones you enjoy, the important thing is that your active.

Calorie Burning Activities (estimates)

Walking      130/hour

Brisk Walking 250/hour

Sitting on the couch  75/hour

Mowing the lawn 295/hour

Volleyball  340/hour

Playing Golf 250/hour

Bicycling 710/hour

Basketball or Racquetball 460/hour

Running (fast pace) 1000/hour

Tennis 510/hour

                                                         Physical Education

It seems to be smooth sailing in PE right now the kids have responded very well to routine and our procedures. We have enjoyed activities such as Capture the Football, Kickball and Ultimate Football in grades 3-8 and Noodle Tag, Flag Grab and Ghosts in the Graveyard in grades K-2. The activities that we are focusing on right now are conducive to large groups as we continue to pair classes for PE. These large group games work great to keep all of the students active! The weather has been wonderful and for that we are very thankful!

A couple reminders:

1. Students in grades 3-8 have the opportunity to make up PE with an Activity Card. It is the responsibility of the student to obtain the orange card from me and its purpose is to allow students to make up lost PE points due to absence. So if your student has to miss due to a Dr. appt. or illness, they do have the opportunity to make up points. This will keep their grade up and also puts the responsibility in their hands.

2. Middle School Students need to wear their PE uniform for class. I do not want the kids to rely on borrowing from other students. Each student needs to have their own uniform. Students do lose points if they don't have their uniform. Please help them remember to bring their uniform every Tues./Thurs. as they are not to call home for it.

Thank you for your support and as always, feel free to contact me any time!

Awesome First Day!

What an AWESOME first day! Thank you to all of the students for your flexibility and focus as we start a brand new school year! Today we had the opportunity to review procedures and cover P.E. rules  plus some time for fun!

My expectations are consistent with what they have been in the past. I want students to SHOW RESPECT,  GIVE THEIR BEST EFFORT, HAVE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE and WEAR LACE UP SNEAKERS (6-8 P.E. uniform).  My policy on lace-up sneakers is on Pg. 9 of the Student Agenda books and it was also covered at Kdg. round-up. This is something I implemented 8 years ago for student safety. Shoes that tie stay on feet better and learning to tie shoes is wonderful fine motor practice and a lifetime skill.

We will begin transporting students to the Armory next week if all goes as planned. Which means we are getting very close to having class in our beautiful new facility!!!! If you ever have any questions for me, please email or call me.

I appreciate both you and your students and feel very blessed to be part of their educational experience!

                                                             God Bless,

                                                             Mrs. Wilborn
